About Nate Williams
I help people realize the power they have to negotiate for raises & benefits, protect their jobs, and advance their profession. Currently, I\'m the Deputy Bureau Director for Finance & Operations at the New Mexico Public Education Department’s Community Schools Bureau. I oversee payment processing and bureau budgets, negotiate agreements with vendors & partners, and provide leadership for the team. Previously, I was the Director of Collective Bargaining and Research for the Maine Education Association, representing public educators from kindergarten through graduate school. I provide analysis for field staff on new legislation, advise of bargaining trends, and provide research and data helpful in contract negotiations. In addition, I provide training, support and guidance on contract enforcement remedies including grievances, arbitrations, and administrative enforcement filings. I provide testimony at the Legislature on bills impacting labor rights and public education. I work to promote equity and inclusion through my everyday work and a series of workshops I developed that look to provide resources to educators looking to make a difference.Prior to this position I worked as a UniServ Director in Ohio and California representing public educators in K-12 and higher education settings in collective bargaining agreement negotiations, contract enforcement actions, arbitration hearings, disciplinary proceedings (including terminations), and helping them organize to take action to change the dynamics of public education. I served as a trainer on communications, negotiations, and organizing topics for members and staff.Past experience includes working for elected officials and candidates in field work, media, management, government relations, community outreach, and constituent service. I also practiced law as a trial and appellate attorney.I bring to the table competent, insightful management, a no-drama approach to problem-solving, and a knack for finding the most efficient, effective means of achieving goals.Specialties: Union negotiation & representation, government relations, union organizing, communications, leadership development.
