Since 2006, I have working alongside professional engineers in the mechanical, industrial, software, electrical, and optical engineering realms-Active in engineering since 2006-First job in Machine Shop in Tempe-Manufactured outsourced components from Raytheon & BAE-Worked alongside machinists & mechanical engineers-Proficient with mechanical design work in SolidWorks-Experience with industrial design & precision manufacturing process-Chosen to focus on Opto-Mechanical Engineering-Internship at Arete Associates in Tucson-Worked on first gen. prototype LIDAR and IRCM systems-Proficient with MATLAB image, signal, & data processing-Proficient with LabVIEW GUI software design, hardware interface, & data collection-Proficient with design, integration, software development, & testing of optical systems-Proficient with assembly and optical alignment -Designed mechanical mounting systems for optical assemblies in SolidWorks-Build working free space Laser Communications System-Worked on flight-ready Mine-Countermeasure SystemsThis internship at Arete was hugely significant in the development of my lab experience, as well as furthering my mechanical design skills. The full time engineers gave me a rare amount of responsibility in the development of each of these optical systems. Senior management told me that I was fulfilling the role of a normal professional engineer. For that reason, I feel very grateful to have worked alongside them as an intern.
