Nat Ballou is the CEO/Founder of HomeWare.Net - a provider of hardware and software solutions for the home. The goal is to simplify life by automating everyday tasks. Solutions include automating control of security systems, lights/shades, heating/cooling, smoke/CO2 detectors, sprinklers and many other devices. Prior to HomeWare.Net, Nat was VP of Engineering at Tipbit, a software startup that helps you know what matters. A 30 year veteran of leading software companies and an expert in storage technologies and artificial intelligence, Nat has held senior technical positions at leading software companies including Microsoft, AT & T, NCR, and Digital Equipment Corporation. Nat is a dynamic, customer-focused and highly technical leader of large global organizations. Prior to Tipbit, Nat spent over 17 years at Microsoft in numerous leadership roles gaining expertise in Microsoft’s MSN, Exchange Server, SQL Server, Windows, Bing, Office365, XBOX, and security products. As Product Unit Manager of Microsoft’s AntiMalware team, Nat was responsible for development and management of Windows Defender and ForeFront security products. Over 20 million customers are protected by Windows Defender and over 1 billion executions of the Malicious Software Removal Tool result in millions of disinfections every month. Prior to Microsoft, Nat spent 9 years at Digital Equipment Corporation in various technical roles, including an assigned researcher in the Advanced Computer Technology program responsible for the Orion object-oriented database system and Proteus expert system. Nat also designed, implemented, and maintained the knowledgebase management system used in DEC\'s expert system XCON/R1, software used to configure, layout and sell PDP-11, VAX systems. Nat has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Science / Math from Dartmouth College and graduated summa cum laude/Phi Beta Kappa. Nat also has a Master of Arts Degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin.
