I am a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the states of Oregon & Washington. I have been serving families in the community for the last 13 years, with a focus on creating meaningful and unique memorials. I have an Associate of Applied science in funeral service education from Mt. Hood Community College. I have been a dually licensed funeral professional since September of 2006. Over the last 8 years I have given presentations on funeral service to death and dying classes for Portland State University and Portland Community College. As well as, various high schools in the Portland/Metropolitan areas. In 2009 I became certified by Hospice Foundation of American to teach “Demystifying the Funeral Experience” to hospices throughout Oregon and Washington. In 2010 I was once again certified by HFA to teach “Customs & Rituals: Ways to Say Good-Bye”. I have also hosted several hospice workshops and appreciation events for caregivers. I have served on planning committee\'s for the Oregon Hospice Association Spring Conference, Adventist Hospice Angel & Bow’s Service of Remembrance & Legacy Hospice Light up a Life. In 2012 I became a local coordinator for We Honor Veterans, a program created by the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization, which educates hospice professionals on veteran care and benefits. Most recently, I was a contributor to the Oxford Text of Palliative Nursing entitled, “Planning for the Actual Death” co-written with Patricia Berry, PhD. I am also the Vice President for the Northwest Association for Death Education & Bereavement Support (ADEC) which offers education to social workers, hospice professionals, and chaplains. In September of 2014 I was certified by the In-Sight Institute as a funeral celebrant. This training allows for a personalized celebration, gathering or service requested by a family.
