ABOUT NATALIE RICHARDSON
I am currently an Engineer II for The Mosaic Company. In my role as a Process Engineer, I support 5 sulfuric acid plants, 2 phosphoric acid plants, and the water balance across multiple sites. I support multimillion dollar capital projects, facilitate RCAs, optimize the process, and troubleshoot equipment failures. I am currently a fulltime student at LSUS, working towards my MBA. I graduated with my BS in Chemical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in December of 2021. I completed five engineering internships during my time at school. Two were with the Mosaic Company working as a process engineer in a chemical plant and then in a flotation plant/mine site. My projects in the chemical plant involved evaluating and improving equipment such as pumps, pipes, and filters. In the float plant/mine, my projects involved optimizing pumping for the continuously changing piping for the mine and using modeling programs to improve various systems for the site. I also did a 9-month co-op/2 term internship with Kimberly Clark as a Product Developer. As a member of the product team, I ensured quality and completed product testing. I traveled to various mills in both the U.S. and Mexico to ensure smooth operations during startups and trials. My final internship involved working for Nevada Gold Mines. During this internship, I worked as a process operator and learned each circuit that was critical to plant operation. This job significantly improved my industrial and mechanical knowledge and will help me in all future engineering work. During my time at SD Mines, I supported undergraduate research in a lab where we handled projects with both rheology and 3D Printing. Outside of school I am heavily involved with powerlifting and peer mentorship.
