About Natalie Olson

As a kid, I loved being creative and helping people. I couldn\'t decide what I wanted to be when I grew up because I couldn\'t pick just one of my many ideas. My dad told me I didn\'t have to choose- I could do it all. I was ecstatic that I didn\'t have to give up any dreams. Though my ambitions to be the first dance teacher/astronaut/nurse/scientist are no longer there, the same creativity, hardworking spirit, and drive to help others is alive and well. Engineering was a natural progression for me because it gave me the tools to come up with an idea and make it a reality. At Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, I pursued a degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus in Biocomputing. While there, I wrote endless lines of code, challenged solutions to find better alternatives, worked through the design process, and wrote an overwhelming number of lab reports. Additionally, holding various leadership positions within Alpha Omega Epsilon Technical Science and Engineering Sorority pushed me to be a better leader and team player within the organization as well as in the workplace. Now, working as a Human Factors and Usability Engineer at NxStage for the past 2 years, I\'ve thrived in the ever-changing environment and continued to grow as an engineer. In this position, I\'ve been able to contribute heavily to the development process of next generation products. And as it turns out, parents are always right- I never had to pick if I wanted to be creative or help people. I get to design products with a cause. It\'s incredibly rewarding to directly impact patients and potentially give them a better quality of life in the long run by providing innovative tools for improved care.
