Athens, OH, US

From August 2025 to now, I work with the environmental studies research team. Using Excel, I have compiled over rows of data from an ongoing wetland remediation project, gaining experience in data wrangling. I also calculate new measurements using existing data, such as average grain size and moisture percentage from sediment collection data. By graphing different variables against each other, I have built upon existing data visualization skills. From August 2024 to May 2025, I worked with the Mayors\' Partnership for Progress through the Voinovich School. Responsibilities included: supporting the creation and execution of strategies to tackle urgent community challenges in Appalachian Ohio; partnering with university faculty and researchers to incorporate academic insights and best practices into sustainable community development efforts; and engaging closely with local stakeholders — such as residents, non-profit organizations, and businesses — to gather input and foster support for community enhancement projects.

ABOUT NATALIE ESQUIVEL

I am a senior undergraduate student at Ohio University with a major in Political Science, minors in History and Spanish, and certificates in Law Justice & Culture and Latin American Studies. Currently, I serve as the Vice President of the Political Science Major’s Association. Alongside this, I am a member of Phi Alpha Delta, the Latin Student Union and Ohio University\'s ACLU-Ohio Campus Action team, while maintaining a spot on the President’s List.My career goal is to use policy analysis and advocacy to alleviate the disproportionate environmental burdens faced by low-income and minority communities in the US. After earning a Master’s of Public Affairs, I hope to work as an environmental policy analyst in the nonprofit sector, where I can influence legislation relating to the climate crisis, including health disparities, housing insecurity, and economic challenges caused and exacerbated by extreme and changing weather.
