ABOUT NATALIE DOUGLAS
I have directed most of my attention over the past 7 years to the fast-paced and endlessly intriguing world of embodied carbon emissions and consumption-based emissions. In 2023, I moved from a role in Nelson, BC, that involved helping build local capacity to reduce embodied carbon in buildings and infrastructure and achieve higher levels of the Energy and Zero Carbon Step Code, to one in Metro Vancouver that seeks to support industry and governments across British Columbia to reduce both embodied and operational emissions.Although I discovered the field of urban planning young, I intentionally took my time getting to where I am. I have worked in transportation planning, family and business law, sexual health education, and civic engagement. From each I have learned something important about planning in towns and cities. Throughout them all I have also held on to a core interest in climate-resiliency, data management and visualization, and science communication. I am incredibly driven and inspired by all the changes that our cities, ecosystems, and communities demand of us.
