ABOUT NATALIE CALHOUN WECHSLER

As an MBA/MSEM graduate and professional in Corporate Social Responsibility, I am passionate about combining environmental sustainability with business goals. I graduated from the University of San Francisco with an MBA and MS in Environmental Management with a focus on CSR programs in the technology industry. During my time as the Environmental & Safety Manager for Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks with Delaware North, I implemented and continued several environmental policies and programs. My projects resulted in a reduction in waste/water/energy costs, newly designed visitor information regarding wildlife (including bears) and litter, and a launched employee Safety Committees. I oversaw risk and safety for over 250 employees and a million annual visitors in Kings and Sequoia. I also leveraged partnerships with the National Park service to propose corporate social responsibility projects such as installing Electric Vehicle charging stations, anaerobic digesters, and cigarette butt recycling. While a Climate Fellow working as the Recycling & Compost Associate for the County of Alameda, I rolled out new compost and recycling at ten government facilities while reducing overall waste hauling costs across 90 buildings. In 2014 and 2015 I completed twelve-week internships with municipal resource recovery company Recology Inc. in San Francisco, CA and Portland, Oregon. I researched business development opportunities in the state of Washington and created a database of top cities. In San Francisco, I led a pilot project in special event diversion auditing where I combined outreach, education, and field work into recommendations for the company moving forward. I graduated from Connecticut College with a major in Environmental Studies and minor in Government, and was a varsity captain of the Women\'s Rowing Team. I was a selected scholar of the Goodwin-Niering Center for the Environment and wrote a Senior Integrative Project on Municipal Solid Waste. This cumulative work won me the academic center’s top prize. I also worked in the Office of Career and Professional Development for two years where I led career workshops and created new workshop content. Online I write the Garbage Girl blog and Instagram @girl.garbage to share my passion for waste diversion and reduction.
