I commission and edit stories by scholars that help illuminate how democracy is - or isn\'t - working in the US. I work with historians, political scientists and even poets to produce informative and enlightening journalism for the general public that explores the deeper issues behind the headlines. These stories bring facts and context, not opinion, to bear on the issues of the day. As head of the desk, I have directed coverage of three elections, including the presidential race in 2020 and its long aftermath. I also conceived of, and lobbied successfully for, the establishment of a race and equity beat and editor on the politics desk. Our stories are distributed by the Associated Press, and are republished by news organizations across the US and the globe.
