ABOUT NAO NISHIO
I am a rail systems and maintenance technology engineer with experience across freight, intercity, and high‑speed passenger rail. My work centers on improving safety, reliability, and operational performance through digital inspection technologies, data‑driven maintenance practices, and thoughtful systems integration. I use asset data, KPIs, and condition trends to support maintenance decision‑making, regulatory compliance, and long‑term asset performance. At Brightline Florida, I led the development of the railroad’s enterprise maintenance technology systems and delivered its first Autonomous Track Geometry Measurement System (ATGMS) on a Siemens revenue trainset. My work included contracting, design, testing, certification, and cross‑functional coordination across MOW, operations, and regulatory teams. I now serve as Project Engineer – Track & Systems for Brightline West, supporting systems and track integration for the new high‑speed rail corridor between Las Vegas and Southern California, including traction power substation design reviews and evaluation of emerging technologies.I also serve as Secretary of AREMA Technical Committee 2 (Track Measurement and Assessment Systems), helping guide industry discussions on standards, measurement technologies, and data‑driven maintenance practices. Originally from Japan, I bring a bicultural perspective to my work and a strong interest in connecting U.S. and Japanese rail engineering practices. Outside of engineering, I’m committed to community impact and currently serve on the board of Girls on the Run Las Vegas, supporting programs that build confidence, leadership, and joy in young girls.
