ABOUT NANCY POOK

I learned earlier than most the impact a loss has on a family. To be able to spend my life pursuing a calling where I can help others now, saving lives and making a tangible difference—it’s truly heartwarming. At Kettering Health Network, I’m proud of the personal touch we bring along with great patient care. As a practicing physician, I’m driven by saving the lives that come into my emergency room. And as Medical Director for the Network Operations Command Center, I also get to take a step back and think strategically about how we can collaborate with clinicians and staff across the health system to provide consistent, quality care for everyone in a time of need. It’s this spirit that animates Kettering. I know that whether or not I’m the person a patient directly interacts with, I can count on a dedicated team to go above and beyond in serving our patients. Medicine is always changing. We have to be prepared to adapt to these changes, especially in emergency care. That’s why I focus on:• emergency response communications and media outreach for crisis situations• creating best practices and processes to tackle any situation, anticipated or not, and produce a positive outcome• patient education through outreach programs to head off problems before they arise• the PAUSE protocol, providing safe prescribing alternatives to opioids, through a compassionate understanding of disease pathology. While I love helping patients, I like to decompress, too. Being from upstate New York has given me a lifelong love of rolling hills and the Finger Lakes. There’s nothing like detaching from your smartphone and going for a scenic hike to clear the mind and refresh the body. Specialties: healthcare management | patient care | process improvement
