ABOUT NANCY HABERSTICH

As a seasoned infection preventionist, I’ve “been around the block” a couple of times. In fact, I’ve been around the world a couple times promoting infection prevention and control. I have lectured, consulted and trained people in 6 countries on 5 continents and have found a similar limitation in every country / culture. There is widespread disinterest in the relevant microbiology necessary to inspire self-directed infection prevention and compliance with science-based recommendations and strategies. I hear it everywhere: “I know, wash my hands, cover my cough, wear a condom.” Everyone knows but behaviors don’t change. There are many reasons and excuses. I am convinced that we don’t need more research, white papers or proof to get behavioral changes.In the “afternoon of my career” in infection prevention, I am focused on engaging and educating people of all ages about practical microbiology and infection prevention. My philosophy is to “vilify the microbes rather than the health professional, the food service worker or the sexual partner and unite homo sapiens in controlling the pathogenic microbes”. Neuroscientists tell us that novelty is an effective tool in engaging the brain. I have created the nanobugs®- microbes with attitude – to engage and educate people of all ages, promote STEM to the masses, and encourage self-directed compliance with infection prevention.
