ABOUT NANCY BIRKHÖLZER

From 2023 I will purely dedicate my time and skills to innovation for a better tomorrow. I am interested in Climate Tech, circular/regenerative business models, sustainable communities/living/housing, the future of the German Mittelstand, alternative healing and consciousness development, venture building & entrepreneurship and much more. Let\'s talk- From 2012 I grew & led IXDS (a renowned German Design & Innovation studio) as Managing Partner and exited it to PwC in 2020. As „Global Sustainable Innovation Lead“ I then had the opportunity to lead the Experience Consulting team (of which the ex IXDS team became part of) at PwC Germany, to shape PwC’s global “Sustainable Innovation” approach/offering and to lead projects with a focus on sustainable product- and service innovation. Focussing on systemic change and value creation based on regenerative business models I supported ESG transformation and circular design projects in organizations from the strategy, design & innovation perspective. Additional focus areas of my work have been building and empowering innovation teams (in design studios as well as inhouse design/innovation departments within corporates) and organizational development (New Work). Before the IXDS journey, I helped Fjord (now Accenture Song) establish its German presence in 2007 and built/managed the studio as MD while contributing to scaling the company internationally on group level before its sale to Accenture. I was recognized as one of the \"100 Women of the Future\" by Deutschland – Land der Ideen, and chosen as one of the \"15 Thought leaders & Innovators 2015\" by WIRED magazine. I regularly take on guest professorships and speaker engagements, mentor start-ups & founders and I am a member of the supervisory board at gut.org as well as a founding investor, board member and Design advisor at project bcause (https://bcause.com/). I studied design at the Köln International School of Design (Germany) and Rhode Island School of Design (USA), am a YPO member, Fulbright Alumna, Alumna of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (and a member of their German admission commission selecting excellent future Design scholars), member of the juries for the globally recognized German Design Awards and UX Design Awards, educated Ayurveda therapist as well as family group leader at the German Alpine Club (DAV). I live in Berlin, have two sons, and loves the outdoors, mountaineering & nature.
