Teaching Artist and Social Worker

I have been teaching art to people of all ages and levels of ability for over 20 years. I also assist students in portfolio preparation and art school admission in my art studio in South Slope, Brooklyn. I use expressive art therapy, integrating this modality as well as mindfulness practice into the instruction. I also provide talk therapy IRL and on Zoom. Art is an effective means to express emotions when language cannot. Art as a therapeutic tool opens doors for healing. My areas of expertise are working with the LGBTQA+ community, PTSD, autism spectrum disorders, chronic illness, end of life, parenting. It is my philosophy to educate and mentor my students with the technical skills to master any given medium, but to then expand those skills; with intense daily practice and immersion and develop one\'s creative voice. Art is a human primal need to express and document our life experiences-and the lessons are an opportunity for personal exploration of the internal and external-in an open supportive, non judgmental environment. I empower the student in self mastery, finding their authentic creative voice through traditional art exercises and assignments, but also in non conventional means. I am a mentor-providing support via email/texting between sessions (2 hour studio session) and guide the student through finding their style, and if they choose, take their art to the next level-whatever that may be, beginners and professional artists; seeking a new direction. I use multiple modalities; including, meditation, visual imagery, mindfulness practice, journaling, found object art, rituals, I am available via IRL and on Zoom.
