About Nana Asante
I am a senior at Rutgers University–New Brunswick majoring in Public Health, minoring in Health Administration and Health & Society, and earning a certificate in Health Disparities. I am deeply committed to improving health equity, supporting underserved communities, and strengthening the systems that shape community health, public policy, and access to care.A pivotal moment in my public health journey was serving as a Public Service/Nonprofit Management Intern at Joi’s Angels through the Rutgers Scarlet Service Internship Program (RSSI). Working directly with families experiencing food insecurity and material hardship showed me how community-based organizations operate on the front lines of public health. From coordinating resource distribution to supporting daily operations and service delivery, I learned how compassion, organization, and community trust shape meaningful health outcomes.Across my roles at Rutgers, including Peer Mentor for the SAS EOF Living-Learning Community, Student Center Assistant, Building Operations Manager, Peer Leadership Mentor, and Orientation Leader, I’ve strengthened skills that directly support my public health path. These roles taught me how to lead diverse teams, support first-year students, manage fast-paced operational environments, communicate across cultures, solve problems collaboratively, and create welcoming spaces that prioritize safety, belonging, and inclusion. My long-term goal is to pursue a Master of Public Health and/or a Master of Health Administration, focusing on health equity, epidemiology, community health, and health policy. I am exploring career pathways in healthcare systems, nonprofit organizations, and public sector agencies where I can contribute to community-centered programming, equitable health systems, and policy solutions that address disparities. I am also passionate about mentoring young Black men, helping them navigate academic and personal challenges and thrive in their own journeys.I am currently seeking opportunities in public health, community health, health administration, and epidemiology where I can apply my experience, expand my skills, and contribute to improving health outcomes for diverse populations.
