About Nala Miller

When people hear that I’m working as an office assistant, they think I’m just sitting at a desk, doing homework, and occasionally talking to students that need assistance in the office. But that is far from true. In this role, I get to apply my major of Computational Modeling and Data Analytics (CMDA) to create surveys for students and analyze the data to find areas that are strong and areas that need to be improved in the First-Year Experience classes at Virginia Tech. More importantly, this means that I get to help other students receive the education that they need. I’ve always been a strong supporter of using technology in different ways to help people. In my current role, I get to use one of the most powerful things, data, to make change in the community for freshmen at Virginia Tech. I’ve also had a cyber security and compliance internship at SecureLink, where I learned how to protect the data of other companies. All of my professional work experiences showed me how important it is to use data and technology to help people and I’d love to continue doing this in some way in my future career.
