About Asheya Naik
I am a tinkerer. It started in my freshman year of high school when I first discovered competitive robotics and built something from scratch on my own. Since then, I have been fascinated by the unique ability of engineers to solve key problems in innovative ways to create the world we want to live in. Thus, my passion for it has persisted, with the singular focus of pursuing a career within which I can apply my skills and experience to make a difference in the world, and build a cleaner, greener future for all. Currently, I am an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, set to graduate in May 2024 with a dual major Bachelor\'s in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mathematics. As Systems Engineering Lead on UM:Autonomy, an autonomous boat team in Ann Arbor, I facilitate in-water, dry, and simulated testing for the team multiple times a week, while also coordinating communication and deliverables across several interdisciplinary subteams and managing timelines to have a winning boat for an international competition in Sarasota this March. In addition, I am a Recovery member on MASA-Dearborn, where I am helping the team prepare a dual-stage rocket with a reefed parachute system by determining snatch force within an eyebolt in the rocket through simulations and testing data. At the same time, I am a Supplemental Instructor for Dr. Yulia Hristova\'s Calculus class, where I provide biweekly support sessions for students to answer questions and learn through examples. Through multiple student teams in land-based robotics, autonomous vehicles, and rocketry, I have 5+ years of amateur experience in product engineering - seeing a concept come alive, from ideation to production. Not only am I skilled in mechanical design through CAD/CAM software, but I also have experience prototyping, testing, and applying manufacturing processes to make ideas a reality, as well as analyzing how a product can be iterated and improved. In addition, I am proficient in writing technical documentation in LaTeX typesetting, with experience compiling 400+ page documents both in cloud-based editors such as Overleaf as well as local compiling in TeXWorks and file management in GitHub. Most crucially, I show comfort and familiarity with leading and coordinating communication effectively within teams and know how to manage multiple projects at once.
