About Nael Shabaro

I am an accomplished expert in governance, stabilization and resilience and a senior manager with more than 27 years of experience in diplomacy, international relations and aid projects. I have served as a Chief of Party and deputy chief of party on four major projects in Libya, Iraq and South Sudan with budgets that exceeded $600 million. While working as a home office support for three years, I also supported projects in Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti, Egypt, Syria, Jordan and the West Bank/Gaza. My strength is managing rapid-response programs in politically sensitive and post-conflict areas with a significant level of programmatic complexity and large number of staff and budgets.In addition to my sound grasp of project management cycles and extensive experience working within USAID operating guidelines, I have the leadership skills to ensure rapid and efficient project startup, timely completion of activities with clean audit records and sustainable impact. During my work for the US$156 million USAID Iraq Administrative Reform Project, I hired, trained, and supervised 30 expatriates and 250 local staff, providing support, technical assistance and management oversight for this vast, multi-faceted governance initiative. I have effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills with an ability to effectively represent projects and their interests to a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, donors, other international organizations, the media, and the community.I have an interest and ability to travel and work in remote and dynamic environments with sensitivity to multi-cultural international development work and ability to train and facilitate dialogue among a diverse group of individuals with various skill sets and working styles. I have the ability to creatively problem-solve, to juggle multiple priorities under tight deadlines and to calmly and diplomatically deal with unexpected and sudden events impacting program operations with patience, dynamism and tenacity.
