About Naehyuck Chang
I am an R&D strategist, systems architect, and academic leader with over 35 years of experience bridging embedded systems, energy technologies, and mobility solutions across academia, startups, and multinational corporations.Currently, I serve as Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics Device Solutions Research America, leading workload-driven design solutions for AI platforms. I bridge architecture, silicon, and system-level design, enabling robust operation under real-world, multi-workload environments. My academic journey began at Seoul National University (SNU), where I became a tenured professor in Computer Science and Engineering. I later joined KAIST\'s Department of Electrical Engineering as a tenured faculty member, contributing to advanced research in low-power computing and mobility platforms. My research has been cited over 8,400 times, with an H-index of 50, and I’ve been named a Fellow of both and ACM. I also proudly serve as a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea.I’ve held visiting faculty roles at Arizona State University and USC, and have long been engaged with global academic and professional communities—serving as Chair of ACM SIGDA, Editor-in-Chief of ACM TODAES, and as organizer for leading conferences and journals in embedded systems and EDA.In industry, I founded EMVcon Inc, a California-based startup for mobility electrification, serving as its CEO and Chairman. Later, as EVP at Samsung SDI (2019–2024), I led automotive and ESS battery development and strategy, overseeing global teams of engineers. My leadership helped drive 40% revenue growth in automotive battery systems and spearheaded initiatives in solid-state, fast-charging, and thermal-integrated battery technologies.Throughout, I’ve built a career on bridging disciplines and scaling innovation—from control systems and PLCs for power plants early in my career, to full-stack EV development and hybrid energy platforms at KAIST, to global battery systems for sustainable mobility.Beyond technical contributions, I am passionate about fostering institutional cultures that empower collaboration and purpose. I served as Associate Dean at both SNU and KAIST, guiding academic governance, faculty development, and strategic planning across engineering colleges with hundreds of faculty members.
