Driving innovation in smart materials and sustainable separations, I lead the design and synthesis of photo-responsive ligands for selective removal and release of relevant anions (e.g, oxyanions) from complex aqueous mixtures.•Developing a library of iminoguanidinium-based molecular extractants with tunable solubility, light- triggered release, and >90% removal efficiency.•Engineered scalable synthetic routes incorporating stimuli-responsive functional groups for use across polar/non-polar solvents.•Validating ion capture and release via liquid–liquid extraction, using ICP-OES, UV-Vis, and NMR analytics.•Conducting structure–property analysis using NMR, FTIR, UV-Vis, and single-crystal XRD.This work supports waste remediation, critical materials recovery, and the development of recyclable separation technologies for clean manufacturing.
