ABOUT MYRA LEE MACHADO

At NYC Health + Hospitals, my mission is to deliver compassionate, person-centered counseling services, grounded in integrity, accountability, respect, and excellence—the ICARE values that guide our work.I specialize in substance use disorder treatment, trauma-informed group facilitation, and harm reduction practices rooted in cultural humility. Recently, I’ve contributed to the creation and implementation of a Contingency Management program within a psychiatric department—supporting patient engagement through evidence-based incentives that honor choice, dignity, and progress. With experience at The Bridge and across hospital-based systems, I’ve developed a holistic approach to recovery and stabilization. My practice centers on collaborative care, recovery action planning, and building culturally responsive interventions that reflect the lived realities of those we serve.I’m deeply committed to healing justice and advocate for care models that empower people who use substances to lead, heal, and thrive in their communities. I actively partner with organizations to foster connection, education, and community engagement.Fluent in both Spanish and English, I strive to bridge cultural gaps, expand access, and deliver inclusive, trauma-aware harm reduction education—especially to populations often excluded from traditional care settings.
