About Catherine Myers
I take great pride in my work. From a young age, this started in my love for drawing and painting. I remember one of my first art classes; I was frustrated with the way the petals of a flower were turning out. My teacher saw that I was stuck. I put the brush down and we walked back from the painting, together. We talked about what wasn’t sitting well, how I was feeling, she gave me her thoughts, and we tossed around ideas. I made little tweaks and asked for feedback; from her, from my peers, from my mom. I put down the brush again and came back to it later with fresh eyes. The overall process is invigorating, and the outcome fills me with such joy. I love going through all the motions-even when I’m feeling like the piece won’t ever be done. From helping my son construct costumes to creating a business case with my team, I love the process of building something together: feeding off each other’s ideas and arriving to a destination a little different than initially expected. If I don’t understand a concept or need more information, I will research and talk to people until I can grasp whatever it is rattling my brain. When I don’t believe in something and when I start to question what we’re doing, it deeply impacts me. That’s when we “put the brush down” and figure out how best to move forward. I’m passionate and committed to the work and I ache for the beautiful petals.
