ABOUT MYA GUARNIERI
Author of the memoir Crossing the Line: An Israeli-Palestinian Love Story (Indiana University Press, 2025) and the critically acclaimed book The Unchosen: The Lives of Israel\'s New Others (Pluto Press, 2017), I am a writer, an award-winning journalist, an editor, and an educator. My byline has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Al Jazeera English, The National, Caravan, Outlook India, The Guardian, Le Monde Diplomatique, Foreign Policy, Counter Punch, Guernica, The Daily Beast, Slate, AFP, Boston Review and many others. I hold a MA in Journalism with a concentration in Politics and Global Affairs from Columbia University and reported from Israel and the occupied Palestinian Territories for the better part of a decade. I joined +972 Magazine-a collective of Palestinian and Israeli journalists-in 2011 and was one of the first local journalists invited to come aboard. I wrote features, including longform and essays, for +972 until 2020.I am currently a regular contributor to the NYT Travel section. Additionally, I hold a MFA in Creative Writing (fiction) from Florida State University. My short stories have been published in The Kenyon Review and featured as a Story of the Week in Narrative Magazine.I have over 10 years\' teaching experience at the college and university level. Currently, I am a full-time faculty member at Florida Atlantic University, where I teach senior-level journalism classes and run MediaLab@FAU. Previously, I served as Academic Director and taught writing to refugees through Bard College\'s Refugee Higher Education Access Program. I have also taught political journalism at Columbia University, journalism at Utah State University, and writing at Palm Beach State College, Florida State University and Bard Honors\' College at Al Quds University.
