About Benjamin Benoir Metzger

Benoir (born Benjamin Metzger July 5th 1973) is best known for his unique voice on the guitar. His love of jazz began at the age of 13 when he attended a Stony Brook IAJE program led by Arnie Lawrence - one of the founders of the New School. He moved from alto and bari saxophone to guitar and keyboard as a teen and studied Jazz Performance / Studio Music at the University Of Miami where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in 1995. He recently purchased a tenor saxophone and performs with Shattered. He has performed with musicians including; Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon), Jack Licitra, Pharoah’s Daughter, Tribe Of Djembe, Kema Jamal, Anna Pipoyan, Rhys Chatham’s 200 guitar orchestra “A Crimson Grail”, Natalie Dangerfield, Robert DiPietro (Norah Jones), Terri Thornton, the Suffering Blues Band, Dub Affair, the Noirkestra, Ginger Dust, Dreamer Cult, Benoir and the Long Beach All-Stars, Trio Noir, Atom Rush, and Guardavidas. He has won awards as a composer (NYU Tisch First Run LA & the Arlene Groceries (Seder! soundtrack), band leader (Good Times Magazine LIMF), and educator (Teacher\'s Fund Grant Recipient) including the 2015 Project Challenge \"Children\'s Choice Award\". In 2023 he received a \"Lifetime Achievement Award\" from the Chapters Rap Network founded by Steve Vaccaro who he raised funds with for Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts. He has received multiple proclamations from the Long Beach City Council (2012 and 2021) for his community work and served on the Long Beach New York Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from January of 2022 to January of 2024. He is dedicated to his family, community, students, and hopes to bring more joy to the world through music education and performance. As an educator he has witnessed one of his students George Ariza (who performed alongside him in Guardavidas for years) obtain a full scholarship to the Berklee College Of Music. His Studio Noir created band Deez Guyzz continues to wow crowds by collaborating with Daryl Mac of Run DMC who helped produce a recording of his co-composition entitled \"Waffle House Breakdown\" written with Quinn Siegel (a former student). The local \"Maestro Of Long Beach\" Benoir performs solo, duo, trio, and large ensemble and can provide a club, wedding, or private party with a diverse selection of covers and originals. His latest album Cres En Amor (Believe In Love) was written in Puerto Rico and recorded in Long Beach at Studio Noir.    Good Times Magazine publisher Richard Branciforte invited key members of the Long Island music world to come together and form a \"Music Chamber Of Commerce\" in early 2020. We had one meeting and Covid-19 squashed our plans. We reunited in 2024 and produced an annual Freeport Guitar show in May 2024, which was a huge success. The follow up event Legends Of Long Island Awards dinner was spectacular. Look out for upcoming events and ways to join through Good Times Magazine.
