Above all else, I strive to have a lasting, positive impact on future generations. Through architecture, I pursue this goal by advancing sustainability, promoting diversity, and fostering thriving, inclusive communities.Eight principles that guide my work:1. Livable cities are essential. Vibrant, walkable, and livable cities are key to a sustainable and equitable future.2. Private investment can amplify impact. Thoughtful private development and public-private partnerships can significantly accelerate the transformation of our urban environments.3. Sustainable design is good design. Whether certified or not, sustainable practices are integral to high-quality design. Cost is no longer a legitimate excuse to delay climate-responsive work.4. Stakeholders over shareholders. We must balance the needs of employees, clients, communities, and the environment. No single stakeholder should benefit at the expense of another.5. Placemaking creates enduring value. Great design transcends property lines. Architecture must respond to and nourish the existing community, especially in the face of displacement and gentrification.6. Prioritize the first 40 feet. The pedestrian realm is where human experience begins. Every project must get this right—it’s not optional; it’s the foundation of livability.7. Diversity makes us better. Our profession still lacks sufficient BIPOC and gender representation. We must do better—not only because it’s just, but because it improves our work.8. Learning is relentless. Yesterday’s solutions won’t solve tomorrow’s problems. Progress requires constant learning, curiosity, and the courage to evolve.
