   I have spent over four decades in cross-border tax planning and tax examination defense for multi-national companies in the life sciences, professional services, specialty chemical, personal care, automotive, heavy equipment and technology industries. I\'ve had the honor and pleasure of designing and implementing tax-effective supply chains, monetizing and tax-effecting intellectual property, performing due diligence in acquisitions, preparing business segments for divestiture, and developing other structures enabling clients to optimize both the returns and taxation of their intangible property (i.e, brands, trade secrets, patents, trademarks, corporate reputation, etc.), high-value operations (i.e, marketing, logistics, manufacturing, product design, etc.), and investments.I have served as a tax attorney and partner with two major Chicago law firms, inhouse tax counsel at two Fortune 100 life sciences companies, tax director of a well-known personal care corporation, and an executive director with a Big Four accounting firm. My work has enabled me to travel throughout Europe and Asia, working extensively with non-US parent and subsidiary corporations, and frequently presenting at international tax conferences.My approach to client service is simple: Understand the relevant manufacturing or professional service industry—the competitive landscape, the research, product and process design, manufacturing, marketing, distribution, and sales processes. Then, listen to how the client sees itself within its industry, its processes, and its goals and objectives. These discussions, conducted in an efficient, concise, and frank manner, help us co-develop the appropriate strategies that will optimize the client’s tax position and that will be sustainable on examination.
