About Munyi Shea

Munyi Shea received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University, and completed an APA accredited internship at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center/Harvard Medical School in adult clinical psychology. Her research has focused on mental health help-seeking behavior, culturally responsive intervention, psychosocial well-being among children and youth of immigration, and gender experience with a focus on women\'s health. She has developed and evaluated several school- or community-based prevention and intervention programs, including bullying prevention for Asian/Pacific Islander and Latinx school-aged children, a cognitive-behavioral guided self-help program for Latinas with eating disorders, and a peer-led, strengths-based support program for college-going mothers. These projects were supported by internal and extramural funding from multiple sources, including the National Institutes of Health and the American Psychological Association. Prior to joining Seattle Pacific University in 2016, Dr. Shea was a tenured Associate Professor of Psychology at Cal State LA. She is the recipient of multiple research awards, including the Early Career Award in Outstanding Research Contribution to Asian American Psychology, from Asian American Psychological Association in June 2015, and the SERD Outstanding Contribution to Scholarship on Race and Ethnicity Award from American Psychological Association, the Society of Counseling Psychology’s Section on Ethnic and Racial Diversity in August 2013.
