I understand Psychotherapy as a transformational process sustained by a trusting relationship, committed to empowering the resources and potential of clients in their search for meaning and a more fulfilling life. In this safe space, clients can dare to explore the most delicate, complex, sometimes frightening issues of their biographies-accompanied always by the therapist. The client/therapist relationship is based on the shared commitment to pursuing the well-being of the client, the client being the expert in her or his life, and the therapist the expert in therapeutic change processes. Therapy is meant to act as a corrective emotional experience that creates new relational memories for the client, and opens spaces of creative possibility for the future. I reject the “one size fits all” model, instead I co-create with each client specific therapeutic processes designed to meet their unique characteristics and needs. I do active listening, giving feedback and responding to the client, so that they can check on how I am understanding them in the moment-by-moment of our conversation, correcting my possible misunderstandings. I readily disclose what I am thinking-feeling during the therapy sessions, in order to make accessible to the clients my process of understanding them, their problems, and the evolution and blockages of the therapeutic process, so that we can reflect and move on together. I use active techniques, experiential exercises and dialogues to help clients get in touch with their emotions, express the different dimensions of the person, and give voice to the different positions in a conflict. I also invite my clients to co-design small creative experiments that the clients can do inside and outside the therapy room, to check their assumptions, gain new experiences, challenge their frames of mind, and open up new possibilities.
