I have had the opportunity to work alongside the staff and volunteers at Habitat for Humanity Windsor–Essex through both my Construction Project Management placement and continued volunteer work. My responsibilities include participating with the salvage team, removing reusable materials from residential, commercial, and institutional buildings for redistribution at the ReStore.This hands-on experience has expanded my understanding of various building systems and components, including:HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systemsFraming, interior and exterior finishesDoors, windows, roofing, and flooringFurniture, appliances, and cabinetryThrough this role, I’ve gained firsthand insight into sustainable construction practices and community-based housing solutions. I\'ve also seen the essential role Habitat plays in promoting affordable housing access by salvaging and supplying materials like lighting fixtures, trims, kitchen cabinets, countertops, flooring, bathtubs, and more.Being part of a team committed to serving the community and reducing construction waste has been a deeply rewarding and educational experience.
