ABOUT MUHAMMAD SHEHRYAR KHAN

I work at the intersection of materials science, advanced manufacturing, and engineering leadership. I’m an Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary where I lead the Hybrid Advanced Materials Processing (Hy-AMP) Lab, and I serve as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo.I’m passionate about building better, smarter, and more sustainable materials — and solving the tough problems that come with it. Most of my work focuses on understanding how materials behave during extreme manufacturing processes, and figuring out how to design them for real-world applications in transportation, energy, aerospace, and beyond.I believe that science should not just advance knowledge but it should build solutions. That’s why I push projects forward with a clear eye on outcomes, impact, and practical innovation. Whether through my research, mentoring students, or working across teams, I like to tackle challenges head-on and move ideas from the lab into the world where they can make a difference. As a first-generation graduate and member of a visible minority group, I care deeply about expanding access to education and research opportunities. I want the next generation of engineers and scientists — especially those from underrepresented backgrounds — to believe that there is space for them to lead and thrive.I’m always open to connecting with people who are driven by a similar spirit — whether you’re building a company, launching a research program, or just passionate about creating meaningful change.
