University Professor and Research Leader with over 18 years of working experience in higher education. Responsibilities included delivering part of the University\'s research strategy, leading in the societal impact of research, and forging the use of explainable artificial intelligence in applied data science and analytics with a specific focus on healthcare service development and delivery.I am a Professor at the Information and Computer Science Department of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia. Prior to this, I served as an Associate Professor of Cognitive Computing at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), UK, where I also served as a Research Unit of Assessment coordinator (Computer Science and Informatics, B11), research group leader, and member of the University Shadow Executive Team. I received PhD from the University of Padova, Italy. I have been awarded the Vice-Chancellor Outstanding Researcher Award in 2021 at NTU and the Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship. I have published 350+ peer-reviewed publications and edited over 20 volumes. Funded mainly by the European Commission, my grant portfolio consists of over 4.0 million GBP awarded to my host institutes. My research expertise includes computational intelligence, applied data analysis, and big data technologies, focusing on various application domains. I actively volunteer to support the research community. I am serving on the board of various journals, including Cognitive Computation (section editor of big data analytics), Brain Informatics (regional editor of Europe) and Frontiers in Neuroscience (associate editor). I lead two book series- Applied Intelligence and Informatics (Springer-Nature) and Smart Healthcare Systems: From Data to Knowledge (CRC Press). I am associated with several conferences, including Applied Intelligence and Informatics (founding chair), Symposium on CI in Healthcare and E-health (CICARE), and Conference on Neural Information Processing (ICONIP).
