ABOUT MARLAYNA TUIASOSOPO

I’m an extroverted wireless geek. A networker and collaborator making ideas real, in my engineering career, personal life and my community to inspire the next generation of thinkers.#ILookLikeAnEngineer I love all things wireless and have spent the past couple decades playing in many frequency bands (cellular, non-cellular, licensed, unlicensed, VHF, UHF, even ham), and sharing my passion with others while getting paid for most recent love being 2010 4G LTE was new and united the world in bringing data (previously only accessible through computers) to our fingertips. Broadband data and HD audio was king in the Silicon Valley labs I’ve worked in to train teams of engineers at chipset manufacturers, modem and phone manufacturers I cannot name, and others that are too many to name. LTE got us to 1Gbps+ and super wide band EVS VoLTE with POLQA MOS scores just short of 5. I’ve gotten to work on the latest and greatest chipsets, cell phones, tablets, modems, drones, balloons, smart watches, Bluetooth audio devices…In December 2017 I left the SF Bay Area where I was born and raised (and thought I would never leave) to come to Motor City Detroit. This was the best decision I could have made for my career, and personal life. Now instead of chipsets and cell phones, I work with car manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1s (the companies that supply the OEMs) developing TCUs for connected car and autonomous driving platforms. Cellular 5G NR is the hot topic keeping me busy and recently working on early projects to get ready for 6G, e.g. Non Terrestrial Networks (NTN). LTE brought a lot of new applications to our fingertips and we expect 5G to take it to another level at higher data rates, more devices (mMTC and IoT) and ultra reliable. CV2X lab and field projects, eCall / NGeCall lab and projects in crash test facilities, radar testing of bumper and radome material, CarPlay certification audio testing, and recently Bluetooth/UWB for remote keyless entry are hot topics I’ve been supporting here in the automotive industry. I love that the wireless “devices” I work on now are not limited to handhelds and the challenges are interesting as my customers are primarily focused on safety and zero crashes for the consumers that use them. Reliability is now a matter of life or death.
