About Maria Sofia de Abreu
A little bit about me: I’m a shameless cheese fanatic, a Stranger Things constant bingewatcher, and the friend who will burst into singing at any word. However, on LinkedIn, I’m a freshman at Fordham University, hoping to pursue a major in Political Science with a double minor in Journalism and Marketing. At the ripe age of 11, I had the opportunity to do a quick segment for CNN en Español, where I was interviewed about my feelings on the, at the time, upcoming 2016 presidential election. It was at this moment that my love for politics, news, and media began. From discussing social, economic, and political topics at the dinner table to putting them into practice in self-written 10-minute speeches for Speech and Debate that I presented to crowds of over 50 people, I love turning ideas into action and making that action known. My practical experience in customer service and working with kids has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and build a community with people from all walks of life. These skills, alongside my dedication, will allow me to cultivate my passion for political communication, work I’m excited to deepen at Fordham University. Because politics is ultimately about persuasion, I’m naturally drawn to marketing, where using brand storytelling, campaign strategy, and analytics can turn public attention into civic action.
