It\'s all about User Experience!My love for computing started when I was 12, when my parents bought me a Texas Instrument computer-in-a-keyboard. I had to be very creative to work with only 16KB of RAM but it was enough to spark the flame that would lead me all the way to this point.Being a very creative person, I went to college in Photography, to quickly realize that this line of work would not be very lucrative. I dropped out and went to Herzing College to become an Analyst Programmer.While at Herzing, then 19 years old, I had to write a CICS/Cobol app with interactive menus. I went a step further than the assignment, by detecting the terminal model and activating text formatting features when the user was using a terminal that supported them.One year later, my first official app was written using DBase and VB, it was written for BNC\'s Marketing department with the goal of allowing them to do market research using data from Statistics Canada.At 21, I started working at the BNP as a mainframe operator/PC tech. During my ten years there, I quickly transitioned to PC and network support, responsible for the Canada-wide network I put in place, Notes server administration, trading desk support, end-user support and just about everything else that touched a PC. With the help of the mainframe Admin, we digitized all reports coming from the mainframe, automatically converting them to Word. We were officially rewarded for this initiative.In I moved to VIA Rail as a Novell/Windows admin. When I started, we had about 10 Novell servers and a few Windows. By the time I left VIA in 2012, we had long migrated off Novell and had a few hundred Windows servers, most of them virtualized. One of my personal best was when I wrote scripts in VB and LotusScript to convert Notes documents into Word, preserving all formatting as is; no commercial app or script had that capability at the time.At age 45 I moved to Intact as a consultant in the End-User computing group to help with the conversion to Windows 7, among other things. Three years later I accepted a permanent position in the same team.Today, almost 54, I\'m an Integrator in the Infrastructure Architecture team and I love it! This position enables me to broaden my horizons and work on all sorts of projects.
