Collaborated with Dr. Percy Zahl at the Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) to investigate on-surface synthesis of atomically precise carbon materials with semiconducting and magnetic properties using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope (LT-STM) under ultra-high vacuum (UHV), and analyzed their topological and electronic properties using non-contact atomic force microscopy (nc-AFM) with carbon monoxide functionalized tip and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS).

ABOUT MAMUN SARKER
I am a materials chemist, specializing in the design and synthesis of atomically precise carbon-based nanomaterials using tailored organic molecules as building blocks. My expertise spans graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), graphene quantum dots (GQDs), and nanoporous graphenes (NPGs)—all engineered with atomic precision via bottom-up synthesis. These materials enable next-generation electronics, quantum materials, and molecular-scale devices by tuning their electronic, magnetic, and topological properties.My research has focused on developing scalable synthesis strategies for advanced graphene-based nanomaterials, including zigzag chevron-type GNRs for topological phase control, magnetic quantum dots for spin-based applications, and nanoporous graphenes with tunable band gaps for nanoelectronics. Additionally, I have integrated GNRs with DNA origami frameworks, fabricated ultra-sensitive chemo-resistive gas sensors, and explored environment-specific synthesis pathways for selective material production.Career Highlights: Over 10 years of expertise in materials chemistry, leading both independent and collaborative research in solid-state and solution-based synthesis, method development, and advanced data analysis, with 3 first-authored and 9 co-authored publications. Proven excellence in teaching and mentoring, having supervised graduate students and taught undergraduate/graduate courses, fostering the development of the next generation of materials scientists while advancing research in next-generation electronics. Active contributor to the professional community, with expertise in STM and organic synthesis, developing novel carbon-based semiconducting materials and modular fabrication strategies, and presenting research at international conferences and collaborating with interdisciplinary research teams.I am actively seeking opportunities in industry, national labs, or academia, with a focus on materials research, quantum materials, and semiconductors, particularly in applications related to surface science, biomedical, and pharmaceuticals.
