ABOUT TOM BALLARD
I’ve spent the last eight years building electronic trading infrastructure for Fixed Income markets - execution systems, pricing engines, and the APIs that connect them to the trading desks of Tier 1 banks, market makers, and hedge funds. Most of that time has been in forward-deployed, high-stakes environments where the margin for error is low and the pace is unforgiving. At Broadway I took US Corporate Bond trading from a blank sheet of paper to live production trades in under 12 months. Through a CMA-mandated divestiture, a global pandemic, and an acquisition by Bloomberg, I kept complex client programmes moving when the organisations around them weren’t sure which way was up. I’m technical enough to sit with engineers and work through architecture decisions, commercial enough to own a pipeline conversation, and domain-specialist enough that I find market microstructure genuinely interesting rather than just professionally useful. That combination is reasonably rare and it’s where I do my best work. Currently at Bloomberg leading D2C trading workflows across Fixed Income and supporting a significant sales pipeline across Europe, North America, and Australia. Outside of work: hackathon builder, Naval Reserve veteran, and attempting to renovate a 17th century farmhouse in the Cotswolds - which has taught me more about managing complexity than most projects I’ve worked on professionally.
