ABOUT IAN SCOTT

I am an experienced software developer and manager. I have managed teams of software developers and testers, both onsite and remotely, and have agreed programs and implementation with product managers and other stakeholders. I am a keen advocate of agile methodologies and have managed the transformation of teams to use variations of Scrum and Kanban to reduce lifecycles and improve quality. As necessary I have also facilitated adoption of ideas from the Scaled Agile Framework to ensure that multiple teams can feed into a single codebase and thence via a more waterfall-based integration test system into production. I have managed teams comprising business analysis, development and QA, and am acutely aware of the need to ensure changes are defined and developed correctly and then tested and released without issue.I have designed and managed complex systems through the whole of their lifecycle from requirements gathering through implementation, testing, deployment and support. I have implemented change management systems to ensure smooth deployment, testing and rollout of changes. I have also been responsible for the management and mentoring of other staff, both developers and testers. I have extensive experience of many programming languages including Java, Scala, Groovy, Python, C#, PL/SQL, C/C++, JavaScript and Perl, and technologies such as SQL, SPARQL, JSON, HTML and XML. I have worked with frameworks including.NET and J2EE. I have worked on a number of back end systems, including Linux, Solaris, Windows and VMS. I have also worked extensively with automated build systems such as Bamboo and Jenkins, and managed deployments and configurations via puppet and hieradata.I have also managed support and monitoring of systems in production. As well as managing the on-call rota for 3rd line support, I have produced initial resolution of service items, in some cases covering complex service issues across multiple platforms and managed the follow up on issues to ensure root cause was understood, and appropriate enhancements were made to improve the service in the future. I have also worked proactively to avoid future production issues by improving and automating OS patching and the management of user certificates. I have also monitored usages and latency in these systems, and reported this to senior management, including investigating issues and suggesting necessary improvements in capacity or performance.
