With a few partners we founded the company Mwingi Kenya Ltd, a start-up that aims to establish an innovative Franchise Retail Business in rural Kenya. Mwingis customers belong to the so-called “base of the pyramid (BoP)” population which is the poorest group of people in the world who live on less than USD 2.50 a day. Because there are no tarmac roads they don’t have reliable access to essential and affordable products and have to pay high prices which is creating an ongoing cycle of poverty.Mwingi aims to solve this problem through an innovative franchise model, aggregating the demand of entire communities and establishing a reliable supply chain. Mwingi provides essential and affordable products and in addition supports local entrepreneurship. Mwingi is not an NGO but a profit-oriented organization. This is essential to scale up to hundreds or even thousands of shops. The goal is to achieve both highest impact for the people as well as sustainable profitability.

My working life has included global senior management positions in large corporations as well as in smaller start-ups, gaining leadership experience on three continents, Africa, Asia and Europe.I am enthusiastic in the development and growth of organization, the establishment of viable business models and the implementing of operational excellence. The opportunity to coach young professionals with different cultural background became more and more important in my life. With Mwingi, I am very happy to be able to contribute to improve the lives of the poorest in Africa and to help young women to become successful entrepreneurs.
