Running a business….being an entrepreneur, takes guts, determination, and a lot of hard work. It can at times be lonely and frustrating.I am an entrepreneur, been a big company CEO, and have supported many businesses as an experienced advisor. I have ‘walked the walk’, and have learnt to lead and coach people through real life experience. I have empathy and balance to my approach. I will ask the questions you may not have thought of. I honed my skills as a Vistage Group Chairman and supported 10 diverse SME business owners on their journey. When you are an entrepreneur your personal and business lives are intertwined, balancing the two things is not easy, and there are lots of bumps in the road that need careful navigation. As a coach/mentor, or board director, I bring a lot to the table… helping you to navigate your journey more successfully.I moved from a corporate career in retail, to buying the business I was running. I have extensive experience of growing and developing small and large businesses, leading and cultivating growing organisations, and handling the stresses, joys and challenges of leadership. I have a large family and had to balance my family’s needs with the business. I am a creative thinker, strategically minded, well connected, hard working and still developing new opportunities. I learnt about leadership and communication through real experience. It started in my early 20’s …… as an Inspector in the Royal Hong Kong Police force …. a platoon leader in the Police Tactical Unit, the anti riot and terrorist squad, I had to help quell serious rioting in the Vietnamese refugee camps… that taught me about leading by example, communication, and making sure you bring your team with you.At 39 I led the £87m MBO of an international retail business, doubled profits in 3 years and delivered a significant return to all shareholders. I spent 9 years as the CEO, leading and profitably growing this international retail brand to a turnover in excess of £250 million, profits of £15m and over employees. In my mid-forties I made enough money to move into non-exec and investment work, created a boutique property business in Italy, bought a truffle plantation, planted a new vineyard, took up adventure motorcycling, and made the time to have a rich and varied life.I am now looking for another two entrepreneurs, CEO’s, or businesses, that need help… whether as a non-executive or your coach/mentor…whatever is the best fit.
