WORK HISTORY
Civil Engineer @GE Vernova
I lead the civil design for electrical substation and energy projects across the UK and Europe. My work covers the full project lifecycle, from tendering through design, construction, and handover. I deliver fully compliant designs in line with British Standards, Eurocodes, client specifications, and CDM 2015.I prepare technical submissions offers for tenders, BoQ, and cost estimates for all civil works, including enabling works, site compounds, earthworks, foundations, roads, drainage, buildings, RC structures, and landscaping. I coordinate closely with primary plant, secondary systems, M&E, asset protection, and telecoms teams, managing design delivery through 3D BIM and Revit.I act as the main civil engineering point of contact for clients, designers, and contractors. I review and approve external design outputs, chair design reviews, and issue design packages for approval and construction. I also support tendering activities by assessing subcontractor bids, advising on preferred suppliers, and contributing to winning technical and commercial proposals.During construction, I carry out site visits, resolve technical queries, verify works against the design, and manage design changes. I oversee project close-out, that includes as-built drawings, quality records, O&M manuals, health and safety files, and all required civil engineering works documentation.I develop Life Cycle Assessments using industry standard tools, ensuring compliance with international sustainability standards. I engage with suppliers to promote LCA and EPD adoption and keep up to date with sustainability legislation and frameworks.I also use Autodesk Construction Cloud to create and maintain accurate design deliverables and construction records.

ABOUT MARCO PRATA
Civil Engineer (EngTech MICE) working in high voltage AIS and GIS substation and grid infrastructure projects, leading the development of safe, buildable and cost‑effective civil designs that keep projects on time, on budget and compliant with UK and EU standards. I combine hands-on design skills, site experience with coordination of multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver reliable assets that support the energy transition. At GE Vernova, I take ownership of the civil design scope for substation projects, from concept and feasibility through detailed design and construction support. My experience includes foundations for transformer, shunt reactors and HV equipment and steel structures, substation buildings, cable trenches and duct routes, drainage, roads and platforms, always with a strong focus on CDM Regulations, quality, delivery and NEC contracts.I lead coordination between civil, primary, secondary and protection & control disciplines, working closely with project managers, design, CAD/BIM teams, suppliers and contractors to resolve clashes early, optimise layouts and de‑risk delivery. I am comfortable reviewing and challenging design inputs, managing changes and supporting design reviews with clients and stakeholders.Professional credentials include EngTech registration with the Engineering Council and membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE), supported by training in temporary works, leadership and project management. This enables me to contribute not only as a designer but also as a technical reference point for junior engineers and as a bridge between engineering and site execution.Key skills:• Lead civil design for HV substations (layouts, foundations, buildings, drainage, road access)• Coordination of multi‑discipline design teams, suppliers, contractors and Client• Application of UK standards, Eurocodes, CDM regulations, health & safety and quality assurance in design, NEC contracts, National Grid NG/SSEN technical specifications• BIM and digital tools to improve coordination, reduce rework and support construction
