ABOUT MOUSTAFA ABOUELKHEIR
Since April 2019, I have worked as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. I hold advanced qualifications in Emergency Medicine, including FRCEM, EBCEM, MRCEM, FEBEM and CESR (awarded November 2022). My career spans five countries—Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Ireland, and the UK, providing senior-level exposure to diverse healthcare systems, each with unique structures, strengths, and challenges. This international experience and qualifications has strengthened my clinical expertise, honed my decision-making, and given me a deep understanding of the operational and systemic dynamics of Emergency Departments, including workforce capacity, resource allocation, access to specialty care, and patient flow management, and their impact on performance and patient outcomes.I currently serve as Ultrasound Lead within the department and as a faculty member for RCEM Level 1 & 2 Ultrasound courses and FAMUS, where I promote point-of-care ultrasound proficiency through mentorship, direct supervision, and practical training for junior doctors and middle-grade clinicians. I guide colleagues in maintaining ultrasound logbooks and achieving formal ultrasound sign-off.In addition, I hold the role of Quality Improvement and Research Lead, having led multiple departmental QIPs and contributed to published systematic reviews and case reports.I am deeply committed to medical education and play an active role in developing clinicians at all stages of training. As a Clinical and Educational Supervisor at ULHT, I provide mentorship, supervision, and structured feedback to trainees, supporting professional growth and career progression. I am an Instructor in ATLS, FAMUS, and POCUS, delivering courses, interactive teaching sessions and practical workshops within the Emergency Department, nationally and internationally. I also lead the coordination and delivery of the CESR teaching programme, ensuring alignment with the RCEM curriculum and supporting doctors pursuing specialist registration.I also serve as an examiner for the European Board of Emergency Medicine (EBEEM) and as a MRCEM examiner for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, assessing candidates’ knowledge, clinical reasoning, and practical skills to uphold high standards of certification and professional development within the specialty.Through these combined clinical, educational, and leadership roles, I am committed to fostering a positive learning culture, promoting clinical excellence, and supporting continuous improvement within Emergency Medicine.
