ABOUT MORITZ BENKERT
My whole life I have been fascinated by motorsports. While this statement is still true, my perception on motorsports changed greatly since I have studied mechanical engineering and have been part of formula student. Apart from the team work I have been really interested in the technology and construction of a race car. As leader of the suspension team of Mainfranken-Racing I was intensively working in the field of vehicle dynamics.I gained my first experience in the field of professional motorsport as an intern at Phoenix Racing’s DTM department. Working closely with the performance engineers of Phoenix and Audi I was responsible for pitstop and start analysis. Due to my outstanding performance, I also had the opportunity to write my master’s thesis at Phoenix Racing. Thereby, I developed a simulation model of the Audi R8 GT3 for lap time simulations and dealt intensively with the theoretical modelling for the simulation of transient vehicle behaviour. My employment as a race- and performance engineer for GT and LMP cars has allowed me to gain a deep understanding of data acquisition and the use of analysis software. Furthermore, I have focussed on the kinematics of the Ligier JS P320 and was able to deepen my knowledge of multi-body simulations.At the moment I am working as a freelance race- and performance engineer.
