ABOUT MONTELL D. BROWN
I believe student success is not accidental; it is the result of courageous leadership and intentional systems design. I am an award-recognized, equity-centered school leader with a proven record of leading complex, high-impact initiatives in a large, diverse school district, grounding systems design and decision-making in equity and culturally responsive practices. My leadership spans MTSS design and implementation, discipline reform through restorative practices, multilingual learner programming, Career and Technical Education, and equitable access to advanced coursework. Through MTSS, I have led targeted, systemwide efforts that address chronic absenteeism while strengthening academic achievement, behavioral outcomes, and social-emotional development by aligning tiered supports, improving family engagement, and ensuring students remain connected to school and learning. My work in restorative practices has focused on reducing exclusionary discipline, strengthening adult consistency, and building school cultures rooted in accountability, repair, belonging, and cultural affirmation.Beyond the school level, I contribute to divisionwide efforts through talent recruitment, professional learning facilitation, and equity leadership. I have supported initiatives to diversify the educator workforce, facilitated divisionwide professional learning on instructional practice, culturally responsive instruction, and restorative approaches, and developed frameworks adopted beyond my own building.I believe sustainable school improvement requires leaders who own results, make difficult decisions with courage, and relentlessly build culturally responsive systems where every student has consistent access to high-quality instruction and graduates prepared for college, career, and life.
