ABOUT MONOSWI CHAKRABORTY
Monoswi is a Graduate Researcher in the Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics (GGB) program at the University of California, Riverside, USA. He has completed his Master\'s from the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) in Bengaluru, India, and has previously served as a research intern at the Epigenetics Lab, TIFR-National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS), and the Plant RNAi biology lab at International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB)- New Delhi • He has specializations in the respective areas of biotechnology & bioinformatics. Having worked in diverse areas including structural bioinformatics, clinical trials, drug discovery, molecular biology, and genetic engineering, Monoswi ventured into working on CRISPR/cas gene editing to mimic the RNAi mechanism in Plasmodium during his master\'s thesis. Following that, he worked with Prof. Blake Wiedenheft at Montana State University to understand the role of reverse transcriptases (RTs) in CRISPR adaptation to RNA, a novel mode among the handful of known mechanisms for reverse flow of genetic information from RNA to DNA genomes, including those employed by retroviruses, telomeres, retrotransposons, mobile group II introns, and phage diversity generating elements. For his graduate research, Monoswi is currently working on synthetic chassis engineering using systems, synthetic and computational biology approaches. He is an optimistic biotechnology and computational biology enthusiast.
