About Monish Khanderia

Currently, as part of the Behavioural Science team, I apply behavioural insights to diagnose problems, design interventions and implement experiments to improve the financial wellbeing of Australians working alongside strategy experts, researchers, designers and partners. Starting in management, leaving an investment bank to study behavioural economics, and later amassing experience in applied behavioural science and practical philosophy; my journey so far has been anything but conventional and linear!My work focuses on a simple but stubborn problem: helping people do what they intend to do, especially in complex, high-stakes environments like money, technology, and everyday decision-making. I design and test behavioural interventions that move beyond clever nudges toward systems people can actually live with.Over the past decade, I’ve worked across banks, start-ups, and community contexts designing experiments, embedding test-and-learn practices, and translating behavioural insight into real products and policies at scale. I’m comfortable operating where rigour, ambiguity, and responsibility meet.Alongside my applied work, I maintain a quiet contemplative practice and write essays and poetry about awe, attention, love, suffering, consciousness and the other inner landscapes. This is how I train clarity, restraint, and ethical sensitivity in my professional work. It keeps me wary of shortcuts, sceptical of behavioural gimmicks, and focused on long-term human impact.More recently, I’ve also been involved with the Institute for Practical ekoPhilosophy in Berlin, contributing to small-group practices that translate philosophical insight into lived wisdom. That work reinforces a belief that runs through everything I do: durable behaviour change is not only about decision architecture, but also about building healthier inner frameworks, deeper values and everyday philosophies.I’m wired differently, self-motivated and resilient, which I discovered when I overcame a near-fatal illness (due to which I had to resign from my job and attend hospital visits for the next 16 months) alongside university applications, entrance exams and virtual internships to pursue my academic and professional career in Behavioural Science. I’m drawn to roles where behavioural science is treated as craft: rigorous, reflective, and accountable to real human lives. I bring strong methods, holistic and relational thinking, and the patience required to make interventions survive contact with reality.
