About Monique Villa Capra
I\'m a seed-stage VC and ecosystem builder based in Nashville.I serve on the boards of the Belcourt Theatre, Nashville’s non-profit movie theater, and Build In SE, a volunteer-led organization I co-founded to support ecosystem builders in the Southeast.Previously, I was a Senior Investment Advisor at Beyond Ventures, an investment and philanthropy advisory firm for family offices, endowments, and foundations serving clients including Pivotal, a group of organizations founded by Melinda French Gates to accelerate the pace of social progress for women and young people in the U.S. and around the world. Prior to Beyond Ventures, I served as the first Chief Investment Officer at Launch Tennessee, leading the capital team and launch of InvestTN, a new $70M fund for Tennessee startups and venture capital funds. From 20••••22, I was an early-stage investor at Mucker Capital, investing in Seed and Series A stage companies outside Silicon Valley. I opened their first satellite office in Nashville. I grew up in Los Angeles, starting my career in operating roles at early-stage venture capital funds, including Velos Partners, based in LA and Singapore, and Core Innovation Capital, a fintech-focused fund based in LA and San Francisco. Before VC, I advised digital entertainment startups on business development and strategic partnerships, and later went on to lead a startup accelerator for students in the Greater Los Angeles area. My startup career began in 2008 while interning for TOMS, where I supported finance and inventory management projects for several nationwide launches. Fun fact from my internship: I bought a $200 cash register as part of the first TOMS pop-up store on Abbot Kinney. Possibly my proudest achievement!
