About Monica Pemberton
As Vice President and Chief Information Officer at the American Council on Education (ACE), I lead the strategic direction of our technology initiatives, ensuring secure and innovative solutions that drive organizational success. With over 30 years of experience at the intersection of technology and education, my journey has been defined by a passion for leveraging IT to create inclusive and transformative environments. My career began in technology training and evolved through pivotal roles in federal agencies like the GSA and TSA, where I honed my skills in project management and technology operations. Prior to ACE, I served as Chief Technology Officer at the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), leading significant digital transformation projects. An Afro-Latina woman in a predominantly male industry, I’ve faced and overcome challenges that have shaped my resilience and commitment to representation. This personal journey fuels my dedication to mentoring and advocating for underrepresented groups in tech. I proudly sit on the Association of Women Technology Champions (AWTC) board and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Technology Professionals Advisory Council. Recognized as a 2023 Diversity Women Media Elite 100 honoree and a 2025 Black Leaders Worldwide Women to Watch, I continue to champion equity and inclusion in all facets of my work. I believe in the power of technology as a catalyst for economic stability and strive to create pathways for those traditionally excluded from the tech narrative. Let’s connect to drive meaningful change and innovation in our communities.
