About Monica Ernberger
A University of Iowa alumna, I am an Assistant Director specializing in International Internships and study abroad for the UIowa International Programs Office. I also work with the Pomerantz Career Center for work-volunteer-intern abroad (ISLRA) placements that are not for credit. I do study abroad advising for the Tippie College of Business, College of Public Health, the Global Health program and several certificate programs. I am the international internship coordinator, working with all our colleges to find placements abroad for students of any major. I love working with students, faculty, and staff and have been active in the field of higher education since 1998. In addition to advising on study abroad and WIVA opportunities, I lend my support in the office on crisis and risk-management situations abroad, as needed. I have a background in working with education abroad crisis response and risk management from my time at Iowa State University, where I was the Senior Study Abroad Program Coordinator. Outreach and presentations at the local, state, regional, national and international levels have been an outlet for me to give back to the field I love.

The Gilman Advisor Ambassador Program seeks to strengthen the partnership between the United States Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman Advisor Ambassadors serve to elevate the profile of the Gilman Program among critical audiences, offer higher education perspectives to the Gilman Program, and guide faculty, advisors, and administrators who seek to increase Gilman participation on their campuses. My specialization is the partnership between the Gilman Scholarship and international internships. I am specifically interested in helping colleges and universities increase their DEI efforts through Gilman and internships.
