About Monica Wideman

Since 2013, I have served as an HR Professional who has built and maintained partnerships with operations partners. Over the last 10 years, I have provided information and advice to senior leadership, and have sought to better understand business needs to provide strategic business planning. My most recent promotion to Regional HR Manager for the Des Moines Region of AutoZone, has allowed me the opportunity to be strategic and low down longer term plans to grow future leaders at AutoZone. With partnership from my operations partners, I have worked to drive results in the Des Moines Region in areas such as training, succession planning, legal compliance and retention. I have sought to seek root causes of employee relations issues and made and executed strategic plans to prevent issues from forming.As an HR Generalist for AutoZone, my responsibilities included engaging and building relationships with more than one region, and more than one regional team at a time. This included working both closely with and independently from HR Managers for the various regions I support to assist them in their needs, which often includes employee relations, HR Audits, staffing, recruiting and training.Prior to AutoZone, I worked for a small occupational safety distributor (<100 employees nationwide) for 8 years, 3 of which in HR. In the HR role, I developed policies and procedures, worked closely with senior leadership on HR initiatives, advised on hires and terminations, and ensured legal compliance.Outside of HR, my personal interests include using my degree in graphic design and journalism to do marketing work for a non-profit and running a Girl Scout troop of 30 girls, which requires communication with parents, tracking paperwork, meeting deadlines and working on providing unique opportunities on an annual budget of approximately I enjoy a challenge, including learning new skills. The people I work with are important to me and I enjoy being part of a team who is all working towards similar goals. It is important to me to do meaningful work, to see progress and positive results in the work that I do.

    The Regional HR Manager role is both an advisory role and one that drives change. In this position I partner closely with the the Regional Manager about all HR matters for the 83 stores in the region. I also advise and direct 6 multi-unit district managers. Together, as a team, we work to develop future leadership through succession planning, performance management and retention strategies.• In partnership with Regional Manager, Regional Loss Prevention Manager and 6 District Managers, provided support to approximately 900 employees within the region.• Advise and follow up on legal compliance and seek out the root cause of employee relations issues to provide a better workplace environment for all.• Developed and executed classroom-based training plan for succession candidates in store level positions. • Trained and developed store manager to identify and prevent employee relations issues, taught approximately 5 times per year.• Conducted investigations and interactives for religious and disability accommodations across Iowa and 6 neighboring states.• Identified areas of the hiring process that was delaying time to hire, and coached teams to improve time from interview to onboarding. Provide additional support through hiring events.• Coached and developed operations teams to improve the performance feedback process including consistency from one team to another.• Ensured consistency on compliance including policies, I-9s, legal postings through store visits and training.• Increased employee engagement through recognition programs.• Review all policy terminations including partnership on recommendations for Loss Prevention investigations.• Various other responsibilities include partnership on potential wage issues, review of background checks, managing the COVID-19 process, reviewing promotion requests, providing risk-assessments on demotions and potential adverse actions, and partnering on LOA and work-comp injuries.
